* Providing a balance between contact and non-contact activities.
* Providing a balance between competitive and non-competitive activities.
* Providing opportunities of achievement for each child.
* Providing activities equally suitable for girls and boys.
Physical Activity
Physical Activity - Our school is involved in a range of physical activity. These include hurling, Gaelic football, camogie, girls football, Bizzy Breaks, indoor games, Active Minute and after school activities. We award Active students of the month at each monthly assembly.
We take part in the European Week of Sport on an annual basis. All pupils put in a huge effort each day running laps of the school, skipping and much more. Students were also rewarded with their efforts with Certificates.
Our Active School Committee organised an Active Minute for all pupils to participate in. Before pupils re-enter classrooms after break and lunch time an activity is decided by the Active School Committee. All pupils participate in this activity for the week. A new activity is then decided for the following week.
Partnerships
Partnerships - During the 2016/2017 school year children in all classes took part in the Supertroopers Programme & Food Dudes. During the months of January & February (2017) 1st & 2nd class pupils took part in the Be Active After School Programme. 1st & 2nd class pupils are also taking part in the Be Active Programme. This commenced in our school in 2018 and it remains in place each year. Even our Infant pupils are taking part in this programme and stay back after school to develop their skills furthermore. Children get the opportunity to develop their skills in the different strands of the PE Curriculum. A member from the Limerick Sports Partnership came to our school to give a nutrition talk to our pupils. Our pupils engaged in the talk excellently and found out the benefits of eating healthy and how it impacts on our daily life. We also received our second Amber Flag recently and this positive mental health mirrors what we aim to achieve in our active school.
